D2-RSSS is a serial remote input/output slave module It is a member of the series of modules developed for the DirectLogic 205 series of programmable logic controllers. Designed to operate with D2-RMSM, the master module, the pair allows for communication between the CPU and the remote I/O peripheral devices. Specifically, D2-RSSS exchanges data with the master module’s CPU, providing data to be transferred from module to controller. A twisted-pair cable allows for communication between master and slave modules. Baud rates can vary from 19.2 kBaud to 614.4 kBaud, depending on how the wiring is configured. The module pair supports two types of remote I/O communication, remote master protocol (RM-NET) and Slice master protocol (SM-NET). Four indicator LEDs are found on the front plate of the module, with each performing a diagnostic or operational purpose. RUN is on when the module is operating properly. Should a hardware failure occur, DIAG will turn on. I/O indicates a I/O failure at the slave, while LINK alerts users to a communications error. A RS232C communications port allows for programming interface or device communications. A rear DIP switch allows for baud rate and other parameters to be set. UNIT ADDRS rotarty switches allow the user to select the module as a slave, with base address reliant on the protocol selected. Points T, 1, 2, and 3 complete with module, with each acting as either a grounding or cable communications support point. All safety and installation guidelines should be followed to maintain the device. Ambient temperatures of the operating facility should be monitored to prevent device damage. Temperatures can range as low as 32℉, or 0℃, and as high as 140℉, or 60℃. Storage temperatures can vary more, with an acceptable range between -4℉ and 158℉, or -20℃ and 70℃.
